White? Not me!

Upon my latest visit to the dentist, I’ve discovered that my tea addiction is slowly, eventually, inevitably discoloring my teeth. And there’s nothing I can do about it. Even if I got the $465 whitening treatment of the stars, I’d still have to wear those painful Crest White Strips once a week til I die – if I want white teeth. So I’ve come to the conclusion that slightly yellow teeth are human, they say I have lived, they say ‘Yes, I drink tea!’

If there’s a cure for this…I want it!

So I wonder if there’s a tea to relieve a urinary tract infection. I think I had one last night, for the first time ever. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It’s probably the worst sensation a person can have. Constantly feeling like you have to use the bathroom, and when you get there, a lonely drop comes out and it burns like Satan with a fever. Not to mention the chills, aches and general malaise that comes along with it. So after 5 hours and about a gallon each of water and cranberry juice, it started to subside. I woke up this morning feeling better, with only a leftover remnant of the burning. It was aweful. I’m now drinking green in an effort to rid my body of any leftover toxins. What a horrible night.

So what do you go again?

I am bored. I’m at work, my supervisors are gone, and I have nothing of any importance to do. This cannot be what life is about. I am staring at the computer, trying to think of ways to pass my time without obviously surfing the net, and it’s not working. no wonder I’m changing careers. There’s got to be more. I’m convinced that one’s work life can be fulfilling, exciting, and challenging – all in the same day! We spend the majority of our waking lives at work with people we probably wouldn’t even be friends with. So here I am, wasting away hours that I could be doing something productive. I am learning new things on the net, but I can’t go anywhere or even take off my shoes and lay down and relax. The bright spot you ask? I did have two cups of tea today. Green tea this morning, and oolong when I got to work. Perhaps another cup of green tea is in order.

Hello again. It’s been a minute since I’ve contributed to the blogasphere, but so many changes have been afoot. I’ve changed jobs, bought a house, adopted a new puppy and visited Asia in the last year (not in that order). But I’m still drinking tea. Every day. Though I’ve noticed a change in my habits, perhaps because of the heat of the season. My favorite time to drink tea is no longer in the morning. I find that a glass of juice, or even COLD tea, suits by morning tastebuds much better. But by about 9:30 a.m., at the desk in front of the computer, with the office A/C blowing so cold I’m shivering, I NEED that cup of tea. My latest fancy is black tea with ginger, though I may start experimenting with decaf versions. I drink so much tea, both cold and hot, that I think the caffeine may be doing something to my inner workings. Too much of anything is never good. Anyway, it’s good to be back.

Mornings without Tea

I did not have my first cup of tea this morning. My personal life has been so hectic the past few weeks that I’ve been skimping on the things that relax me most – a scented bath at night, a good night’s sleep, and my early morning tea. Instead, I’ve been falling asleep on the sofa, waking up at 2 a.m., dragging myself up to bed, waking up late for work, and taking a quick shower in the morning. On mornings like this I have two options – have my tea or walk my dog. Obviously I can’t NOT take my dog out to relieve himself (thanks to apartment living), so I have to skip my gentle deliverance to the work day. It’s been like this for two days in a row. Thank GOODNESS tomorrow is Saturday.

The World According to Tea

I am a tea lover, not a tea expert. As the world of tea reveals itself to me, I am beginning to understand why I have always had an affinity for this seemingly simple drink. Everything about tea is slow – a welcome concept given the instant brew, real time, I want it now! world of today. Though I have not yet experienced the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, I have developed, almost by necessity, my own ceremonial routine featuring tea.

First, I am not an early morning person, but I have an early morning job. And I don’t like the taste of coffee. I needed something soothing, yet stimulating, that would ease me into the day, not send a jolt of energy up my spine at 7 a.m. Second, my mother always preached about the benefit of starting ones day with a warm drink. Cold drinks, she said, shock the system. And so I started drinking tea every morning when I woke up, taking the time to open my eyes, read a magazine, and think about the day. Even preparing tea requires diligence: the process of boiling the water, steeping the leaves, adding the perfect amount of honey, then letting it cool a bit could be enough to drive some crazy. But not me. I like the thoughtfulness and care that goes into an indulgent cup of tea. I’ve even instituted a second tea ceremony as soon as I get to work. Believe me, it helps.

As I discover new varietals of tea, learn the difference between teas and tisanes, and realize its endless health benefits, I make tea a part of my life more and more each day. Welcome to The World According to Tea.
